2 Day Mixed Adventure: Bikes, Elephants, Trekking!
A two day tour starting with an easy bike ride, then an elephant ride, then a visit to the beautiful Tad Sae waterfall! (only from july-january)
Tour also includes a hike to Lao Lum village and a day trek to Khamu & Hmong villages. You'll spend the night in a family home stay before returning to Luang Prabang.
Itinerary:
Day 1:
Mountain bike tour outside of Luang Prabang to Elephant Village (30 km),
Elephant riding, Tad Sae waterfall & visit Lao lum village:
The trip kicks off with a mountain bike ride to Ban Panom, following some new and old roads towards the Lao countryside. You'll follow the gorgeous Nam Khan valley into adventure travel paradise!
Later in the day you'll arrive at the Elephant Village, which is situated along the banks of the Nam Khan river. A beautiful, natural environment in the middle of the valley - perfect setting for an elephant refuge.
Along the way you'll see farmers working the land, forests of teakwood, distant mountain vistas, and the smiles of passing locals curious about...well, you!
After a sumptuous lunch in the Elephant Village with breathtaking views of up to 600 m high rock face, you'll have the chance to get acquainted with your Elephant.
Your Elephant ride (45 min) will take you through lush jungle before dismounting for a boat ride the next trip highlight... the cascades of the Tad Sae waterfall. Plenty of time for a dip!
A short walk will in the afternoon will round the day off before settling down with a local host family in a traditional bamboo house.
Day 2: Trekking to Khamu & Hmong village. (6 Hours) Then drive back by car.
Waking up in village in Lao...it doesn't get much better! Start the day with a trek to Hmong & Khamu hill tribe villages. You're in a pretty remote part of the world providing an opportunity to experience some of the unique aspects of Lao rural life.
There's many trails to choose from, which offer a range of different experiences and difficulty levels. Typicaly, you'll work this out with the guide based on what you want to get out of it.
Everyone seems to enjoy ending the trip with a cool, refreshing dip in the river to wash off the sweat and dirt and relieve an exhausted, albeit satisfied body!
You'll return in the afternoon to Luang Prabang by car.
Destination description
Luang Prabang is a small city in north central Laos. It's situated at the confluence of the Nam Khan river and Mekong River aproximately 300 kms north of the Lao capital, Vientiane.
The population of the city is about 50,000.
Luang Prabang is popular destination for tourists with both natural and historical sites. Natural sites include the Kuang Si Falls, Tat Sae Waterfalls and Pak Ou Caves. Many tourists also enjoy riding elephants.
At the end of the main street of Luang Prabang is a night market where vendors sell shirts, bracelets and other souvenirs. The Haw Kham Royal Palace Museum and the Wat Xieng Thong temple are very popular historical sites. Along with the wats a significant part of the old town's appeal are the many French provincial style houses.
Mekong river moss, served fried, is one of area's specialty foods and is served at many local eateries. Give it a try!
